WORKSHOPS
• Portfolio Workshop for Middle School Students, Fall 2025
This 12 class workshop is designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students interested in developing and strengthening their art portfolios for NYC’s specialized arts high school applications. Students will use a range of materials including graphite pencils, ink, collage, and paint on paper to make figure drawings, still-life drawings, self-portraits, and illustration-based drawings like a “Fantastical Sandwich”.

• Each lesson will include warm-up exercises, demonstrations and presentations by instructors, studio work time, and one-on-one instruction in a fun and supportive environment.
• Each workshop is limited to 8 students and enrollment is a first-come-first-served basis.
• All materials and artwork documentation included.

Instructors:
Nathan Sensel is an artist and educator that teaches drawing, illustration, graphic design, and comics classes at The City College of New York and Parsons School of Design. He has also worked in the education departments at The Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Art & Design, and MoMA. Nate is a founding member of Lookout Studio.
Joseph Hart is an artist and educator that has taught drawing, painting, and illustration classes at Rhode Island School of Design, Penland School of Craft, and The City College of New York. He is a portfolio reviewer for RISD’s admissions department, and has served as a juror for the Scholastic Art Awards. He is also a parent volunteer at LaGuardia High School where he manages their Visiting Artist Program and helps coordinate their in-house college fair and portfolio reviews.
• Private Lessons & Consultation (NYC metro-area)
I offer private art lessons and consultation for youth, families, and adults that are interested in arts enrichment, improving their drawing and painting abilities, and portfolio development for high school and college applications. Lessons are held at my studio in Brooklyn, or at your home (throughout the NYC-metro area). I’m also available via Zoom for portfolio consultations outside of NYC. I use a sliding scale payment model.
• Single two-hour lesson: $100 - $300
• Block of 4 two-hour lessons: $400 - $1200
• Block of 8 two-hour lessons: $800 - $2400
• 1 hour portfolio consultation/review: $50 - $150
• Home visit fee: $20 per visit.
